Hello, I’m Karen Simpson, a passionate wedding, families, events and Iris photographer based in the beautiful region of Ayrshire, Scotland. With over a decade of experience behind the lens, I’ve had the pleasure of capturing countless special moments—from the intimate, fleeting smiles at weddings to the intricate beauty of the human eye through my unique Iris Photography service. My journey as a photographer has been filled with creativity, personal connection, and an ever-growing love for telling stories through photos.
My Photography Journey
My love for photography started many years ago, driven by a desire to preserve moments in time. I began by shooting my own son, then my childminding children then from there weddings and family portraits, honing my skills in capturing the emotions and little details that make each event so special. Weddings, in particular, are one of my favourite things to photograph. There’s something magical about being part of someone’s biggest day and preserving the memories that couples will cherish for a lifetime.
Over the years, I’ve developed a style that’s both natural and relaxed, focusing on candid moments that reflect genuine emotions. I like to make my clients feel comfortable, and I believe this helps to bring out the most authentic and beautiful expressions in my work.
In February 2024, I introduced Iris Photography to Scotland after seeing it abroad and being inspired by the uniqueness of this art form. This specialised type of photography captures the intricate details of the human iris, turning each person’s eye into a piece of one-of-a-kind artwork. I am currently based in Kilmarnock, just 30 minutes from Glasgow, and my garden studio has become a place where people can celebrate their individuality through their eyes.
Iris Photography is incredibly special to me because it’s so personal—no two irises are the same. I enjoy helping my clients create beautiful pieces of art that reflect their unique traits. Whether it’s a single eye portrait, a couple’s piece, or a family arrangement, each photograph is a celebration of the distinctive beauty that lies within.
